With an excellent flavour and a shiny red skin, the Electric onion variety can be planted during the autumn ready for an early harvest. Its pink-tinged flesh can bring colour to salads and other meals once harvested in the summer, with the semi-globe shaped bulbs storing well for up to two months.

• Plant in late Autumn
• Add a general fertiliser to improve yield
• Requires a sunny position in well drained soil
• Toxic to pets if eaten

Advice & Tips:

• Prefers full sunshine
• In prolonged dry spells, water every two weeks
• Allow foliage to die back naturally
• Plant individual bulbs 3cm (1") deep and 12cm (5") apart
• Check your onions every few days and replant any that has been disturbed by birds
• Once the leaves start to die down, ease the onions partly out of the soil using a fork, and then bend the tops over after a few days. The onions can then be lifted out of the soil after a few more days, and left on the surface to ripen.
