Westland Gro-Sure - Vermiculite Compost Additive

Gro-Sure Vermiculite is ideal for growing from seed & to help both indoor & outdoor plants.  Vermiculite helps to absorb nutrients, preventing them from being washed out as well as releases them as required to plant roots. Vermiculite is a naturally occurring, non-toxic material heated to a high temperature to produce a lightweight material with a high surface area.

This naturally occurring mineral has been heated to high temperatures to produce lightweight, absorbent flakes; perfect for a wide range of gardening tasks.

Why use Gro-Sure Vermiculite:

• Gro-Sure Vermiculite encourages strong, healthy seedling growth & establishment. The fine grade flakes can be used on their own or can be added to compost to help compost hold onto vital plant nutrients, to increase compost water retaining capacity, to insulate seeds against damaging temperature & humidity changes (when used as a seed covering)

Advice & Tips:

• Seed Sowing: When sowing seeds always follow the instructions in the packets. Seeds of all sizes can be raised in just Gro-Sure Vermiculite. Alternatively, seeds can be raised in a 50:50 mix by volume of Gro-Sure Seed & Cutting Compost & Gro-Sure Vermiculite. This is particularly beneficial for very small seeds. Sow seeds thinly & evenly, making sure they are not too deep in the compost. Cover seed trays with a thin layer of vermiculite & gently moisten. Avoid over firming.
• Pricking Out: When seedlings are large enough to handle, remove from seed trays with a dibber or pencil. Plant into Gro-Sure & Cutting Compost or a mixture of this same compost plus 25% to 30% Gro-Sure Vermiculite by volume. Space seedlings well apart to allow for strong growth. Water regularly to avoid compost drying out until seedlings are ready to be potted on.
• Potting On: Use a mixture of Gro-Sure All Purpose Compost with 25% to 30% Gro-Sure Vermiculite by volume. This creates a light & very open structure enabling compost to absorb & retain moisture for easier re-wetting. Before transplanting plants from pots to containers it is recommended tow water the plants & allow to drain. Remove plants from their pots & place into the container, firming compost around the plant pots. Once the container is fully planted, water & feed as appropriate.
