The Victoria Cross poppy seed variety is very simple to grow & perfect for dry, sunny spots. These red fringed poppies look stunning planted in masses.

Late summer & autumn sown seedlings may benefit from cloche or fleece protection when hard frosts threaten. Such plants generally bloom earlier the following summer than spring sown plants. Poppyseed harvested from the plants can be used to sprinkle over home-baked loaves of bread.

Advice & Tips:

• Where they are to flower, rake soil to provide a firm, even surface. Sow seeds thinly in pre-watered soil & lightly cover with a very small amount of soil. Sowing in irregular drifts rather than in rows can give a more pleasing & natural effect. Keep soil moist until seedlings are established.
• When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to prevent overcrowding. Poppies rarely transplant successfully.
