Black Buddhist is a hardy Agapanthus variety and is very low maintenance once established, making it the perfect choice if you're looking to add darker flowers to your garden's beds, borders and containers. Thriving in sunny gardens, this variety will produce umbels of trumpet-shaped flowers in various shades of purple and blue, reaching an eventual height of approximately 90cm.
Also known as the African Lily, Agapanthus is very tolerant to drought, and is a popular choice for gardeners who wish to invite wildlife to their garden, as the pollen-rich flowers are attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.
Key Information:
Plant in a sheltered position in full sun.
The bulb nose should be covered by approximately 10cm of soil in borders, with 30cm between each bulb. For containers, single plants should be grown in a 9 inch container using loam-based compost.
Water regularly during the first summer after planting; once established, watering will become less frequent.
To encourage good flowering, the plant will benefit from watering at the end of particularly dry summers.
If planted in the ground, Agapanthus will benefit from a thick mulch to protect it over the winter.
If planted in containers, plants should be moved to a frost-free position for the winter months.
