For those with rock gardens now is the time to plant small bulbs as soon as they become available like; lilium regale and L. candidum. Good Soil.Now is a good time to improve your garden soil. Add manure, compost and leaves, this will increase the organic matter in your soil. House Plants.Don't forget! any house plants that have enjoyed the summer outside, will need to come back indoors at this time of year. Propagate Your Roses.At this time of year, shrub roses can be easily propagated. To take stem cutting you will need to take a length of stem about 300mm long and trim it just below the bottom leaf. Remove all but the top two or three leaves and remove the soft tip just above the root joint. Into a well dug trench you will need to push the cutting in to about half its lenght, and leave for 12 months to develop and root. Lift The Veg!If you planted vegatables, now is the time to begin lifting and storing potatoes, you also begin to store any beetroot and carrots otherwise the roots will become woody and cracked. Pond Nets.Maybe your should think about netting your pond, in preparation for the falling leaves of autumn!
