Garden Tips For December

Monthly Advice For December

Shrubs.

It is still ok to plant shrubs in December, although watch out for the frost! Providing that the pot and the ground are not frozen it should be ok to plant.

Bubble Wrap.

In the greenhouse you can keep it warm and save energy, by lining it with bubble wrap! Keep an eye out for whitefly and greenfly and spray as necessary. They can live all year round!

Fruit Trees.

Fruit trees can be pruned now, but leave cherry and plum trees, as it is possible that they will get silver leaf disease.

Drafty Sills.

It would now be a good time to take any indoor plants off your window sills, this will protect them from cold drafts. Try to make sure that your house plants are not warmer at night than they are during the day.

Indoor Winter Plants.

December is a great time to welcome some winter indoor plants into your home. Choose from poinsettias, chrysanthemums, azaleas and african violets to name a few. If you ensure that they never dry out and are positioned in adequate light, but away from excessive heat like a radiator, they will be successful indoor plants.

Dry Planters.

Even though its probably wet outside, check your planted containers for water - as the cold winds could dry them out.

Its Christmas!

From the beginning of the month a full range of Christmas trees are now in stock. As well as an extensive selection of gift ideas for the family.
